The house where I grew up is now the set for a music video
Fri 27 Oct 2006Completely weirded-out* by this one…
I’m spending this weekend in Port Douglas with Mrs Fitz. In the last couple of minutes before QF786 touched-down in Cairns last night, the in-flight tv showed this music video which I had never seen before.
It’s The Shake by Kisschasy. I have to admit, I haven’t heard of them, not being in their target demographic and all. But they seem to have some pretty good reviews.
The setting seemed strangely comfortable and familiar. And then I realised, Hey! That’s the house where I grew up!
My parents bought the house at Enoggera in 1957, when I was quite young, and raised us 5 kids there. I moved out in the mid-70’s but my parents lived there until my Dad passed away in 2002 and Mum moved to a retirement home in 2004. One of my sisters still lives a couple of houses away. No wonder it was familiar.
I wonder what thought processes went through the mind of the video director when he said, This is the perfect place for a music video! Or was it just that the sound guy’s brother was renting the place? And the lawn gives plenty of room to swing a microphone boom?
Did you see the bloke mowing the lawn? As the eldest son, I reckon I did my fair share of mowing that lawn. It’s 40 perches (1000m2) of lawn minus just the house and a strip of vegetable/flower garden around the edge. But, in my day, I did it all with a push-mower. And you tell the youngsters that these days and they don’t believe you.

Update: Youngest brother tells me that Mum has seen the video. She just loved the fire in the kitchen — NOT!.
* Mrs Fitz expressed surprise at the language here. Apparently, verb‑ing a noun is becoming acceptable but verb‑ing an adjective is just going too far.

Mrs Fitz on the beach at Port Douglas this afternoon.
Further to this morning’s post, we were out on the beach again this afternoon. I only had my phone with me (not a real camera) but I thought you might like to see how wonderful the weath…

Kischasy are an Australian band that are in with the whole ‘emo’ thing. I think. This sort of cred could make you cool, MikeFitz. Be scared.

Hi Stuart, I fear a lot of other things will have to get very cold before I become cool.
